About us

Instituto Millenium is a center for studies, research, dissemination and formation in public issues relating to the government, politics, economy, society, and culture. It promotes the values and principles of a free society – individual liberty, right to ownership, market economy, efficient government, representative democracy, rule of law and institutional checks to government’s actions.

It is a private non-profit association, independent of any political, religious, business or governmental group, which intends to maintain good relations with policymakers of varied ideological leanings. As an independent research center, it can receive funds only from non-governmental sources. This insulates it from political pressures that frequently discourage research centers from touching upon certain sensitive issues. Thus, its activities must be financed by contributions from individuals, foundations, corporations and companies that understand the value of what we are building, our ideas and products. Donations will be destined to sponsor specific projects and to create a fund, with rigorous rules for managing it that will guarantee the institute’s operations in the long term.

It is not merely a question of doing research, but to make a difference, joining ideas with the challenges of the real public policies of today, in order to provide business leaders, the press, policy makers and opinion makers in general with the necessary knowledge and understanding to ensure that the actions of the government contribute towards making Brazil a safer and more prosperous place where citizens have real and wide choices, reasonable, transparent and understandable taxes, where everyone has the opportunity to maximize the usage of their talent, where the more enterprising can become successful businessmen, where jobs are created and income is distributed in a better manner, where the government concentrates on becoming most efficient in its basic functions, recognizing its limits and not serving the interests of particular groups.

We do not want to merely debate ideas; we want to reach out to the public opinion maker and to the general public to ensure that we become an effective and powerful force in the name of economic, political and cultural freedom. The idea, therefore, is not just to conduct research but to indicate solutions consistent with our vision and to promote them.
